The Harpy Eagle

This huge bird is one that I forgot to add to my favorites-because it's definitely on there! It lives in South American rainforests and mainly preys on sloths and monkeys. It is the largest non-extinct eagle in the world.
One female weighed an amazing 27 pounds!!!!!!! Compare that to the weight of a female Bald Eagle(17 pounds!)! That is a lot for a bird, because their bones are hollow!
Here are some pictures via Wikipedia:

(I made this picture bigger to visualize it's largeness)

  1. Hi Birdlover! I found your blog through your blog teacher. It looks like you've done a lot of work here and I love reading about the birds. You need to know, however, that when you use someone else's works (words, photos, music) you need to give credit to those folks rather than leave people to believe you may have created the work yourself. This post is a case in point - since it was cut and paste from wikipedia, you should give credit as such. Even though some items on the 'net are considered free game, it's still courteous to give credit where credit is due. :) Good luck!
